Families and staff at Westwood Academy are celebrating following a May Ofsted visit - which led to an 'Outstanding' rating - found "pupils embody their school motto to ‘Believe, Achieve, Succeed'".
The report praised many aspects of school life, including the provision of a “deep body of knowledge in a range of subjects” for all learners including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, along with a “peaceful yet purposeful atmosphere that enables pupils to focus on their learning.”
Inspectors also found that “pupils are very happy in school.”
Sarah Wimperis, Principal of Westwood Academy (part of The Harmony Trust), said: “The whole school community was delighted to receive this report.
"We are exceptionally proud of our children at Westwood - they amaze us every day with their thirst for knowledge, high expectations of themselves and each other and their determination to make every school day count.”
The report commended the school for its “highly ambitious, well-ordered curriculum,” along with praise for the school’s community links, including its approach to celebration of diversity with “pupils immensely proud of their diverse community” and the children’s leadership team working to “request improvements to the local park.”
Children were praised for their “mature understanding of people’s differences.”
Antony Hughes (CEO, The Harmony Trust) added: "This report is a fitting tribute to the exceptional work undertaken by the entire school community at Westwood.
"Our teaching team work tirelessly in support of pupils, and we were particularly pleased to see their “skilled” and “expert” teaching highlighted for praise by inspectors.
"We were also pleased to see our “wealth of high-quality professional development opportunities’ for teachers referenced as a particular strength; CPD remains a crucial element of The Harmony Trust’s Great Place 2 Learn strategy."
The May inspection took place following a March 2023 inspection found evidence to suggest the school could be graded ‘Outstanding’.
