Lidl reveals opening date for newest Oldham store

Date published: 22 November 2025

Lidl has confirmed that its newest store on Albert Street in Oldham will open this Thursday (27th).

The local community is invited to join for the grand opening weekend celebrations.

The modern discount supermarket will be open from 8am following a ribbon cutting ceremony with pupils from Hollinwood Academy.

On opening day, shoppers can look forward to complimentary food sampling as well as some special prizes up for grabs.

The store will be open from 8am–10pm Monday to Saturday and 10amf–4pm on Sunday, providing the community with access to the discounter’s award-winning range of high-quality, affordable products.

Spanning 1,334m², the store will feature the discounter’s popular in-store bakery, iconic Middle of Lidl, and customer facilities, including toilets with baby-changing stations.

Outside, there will be ample parking for cars and bicycles as well as seven electric vehicle chargers.

As part of Lidl GB’s commitment to renewable energy and carbon emissions reduction, some of the store’s power will  be captured from solar panels on the roof.

In a boost for the local economy, the multi-million pound investment will create up to 40 new jobs.

Following the discounter’s recent announcement, Lidl colleagues will receive £13.00 nationally, marking the discounter’s fifth pay rise in two years and bringing the business’ investment in pay to over £70m.

Nick Harvey, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said: “For over thirty years, we have been creating Lidl fans across Manchester and are delighted to open our doors to our new store in Oldham.

"Today’s announcement is a testament to the growing demand for our affordable and high-quality products, and we’re delighted to open our doors in time for Christmas.

"Thank you to everyone who has played a part in helping to make this store a reality.

"It’s always an exciting moment when we’re finally able to see our plans come to life and make a difference to local communities.”

Ahead of its latest store opening the discounter is encouraging nearby Primary schools to join in the new Lidl Foodies Programme; a free initiative representing an investment of £650,000 from the discounter to provide teachers with resources to help children across the country develop a love for healthy eating.

With over 14% of primary schools in GB already participating, local teachers who want to take part are encouraged to sign up via the National Schools Partnership website to make the most of the discounter’s ready-made workshop plans.

For more than three decades, Lidl has continually delivered its unbeatable combination of quality and affordability to shoppers across Great Britain, with two thirds of its products sourced from British suppliers.

Recently, Lidl was crowned Which? Cheapest Supermarket in their monthly analysis, so shoppers can be assured they’re getting the best value at their new store.
