More than 180 people attended the community crowdfunding evening at Emmaus Mossley on Thursday 22 October.

Protect Mossley, Protect our Wildlife was one of four projects pitching for support at Mossley SOUP’s 23rd event.

Attendees donated £5 each for soup, entertainment and a vote. Each group had four minutes to present its project, followed by four questions from the audience.

The wildlife campaign received the most votes. The other projects were 2nd Mossley St Georges Brownies, Mossley Community Centre’s You Have Arrived project and Tameside Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group.

Each runner-up received £100 from event sponsor Premier Kia.

Linda Barnsley, a volunteer who presented the wildlife campaign’s proposal, said “We were thrilled to have been allowed to pitch at Mossley SOUP.”

She added “The sum raised was phenomenal and we are seeing the results already, which we hope to be able to share at the next SOUP event.”

Organisers said fundraising included door donations, a raffle, £100 from Premier Kia and £333 from Mossley Town Council.

Local volunteers Callum, Dave, Neil and Sarah prepared four soups. Tesco Greenfield and A Taylor & Son Family Butchers donated ingredients and bread, while attendees contributed homemade cakes.

Raffle prizes came from Anthony Barton Independent Family Funeral Service, artist Chris Cyprus, Garratt’s Wine Vault, Suki’s Wardrobe, The Gillery, The Vale and The White Hart.
