Train as an instructor for FREE with Oldham-based Limer Driving Academy

Date published: 27 February 2024

If you've ever fancied becoming a driving instructor, then you can achieve your 'life-changing' dream if you sign up with the Oldham-based Limer Driving Academy.

Owner Shane Limer (53), who started his driving school business 14 years ago in 2009, is now training up potential new instructors, and what is incredible and unique is that the training course is FREE for those experienced drivers who pass the initial screening.

The latest initial training day takes place tomorrow (Wednesday), and there are still a couple of places available for you to attend.

Proud Oldhamer Shane, who worked as a supermarket manager and delivery driver before setting up the Limer Driving Academy, told the Chronicle: "It can cost thousands to train to become a driving instructor, so when I started training people up for free three years ago, the industry locally just laughed at me.

"I'm certainly the first business in the area to offer this - all I stipulate to interested parties is that once I've trained them and they've passed their instructor test, they work for me for the first 12 months on a franchise basis.

"I've got 10 instructors working for me at the moment, while there's another 15 out there who I've trained over the past three years and are now working for themselves independently.

"I've had some amazing feedback from new instructors I've trained who have seen their lives changed immeasurably.

"I've been able to provide an opportunity to change people's careers, and the work-life benefits that go with that once you become a self-employed driving instructor.

"There's a support network there too for people, it's definitely been a rewarding experience for everyone involved."

Shane isn't wrong when he mentions positive feedback to his free driving instructor training scheme.

One newly-trained instructor said: "First class training from Shane and Sharon. followed by their full support and guidance after qualifying.

"This team has a family feel and I feel very lucky to be part of it."

Another added: "Limer have been my rock.

"They have got me to where I am now, being a successful driving instructor.

"Their knowledge and experience is second to none."

Another newly-trained instructor said: "Shane was friendly and professional and his brilliant teaching methods resulting in me passing my instructor test first time.

"He made each lesson personal, going at your own pace, therefore making you a safe and competent teacher."
