Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to Oak Street at 7.42pm on September 30. All four were taken into custody for questioning.

An Oldham Evening Chronicle reporter remained at the scene until the early hours of Thursday morning, October 1, as crime scene investigators collected evidence.

A police cordon remained in place overnight and until around 1pm on Thursday. Nearby residents said an address on Britannia Avenue had also been cordoned off.

Witnesses nearby said that they had heard screaming. One resident said officers knocked on his door to check neighbours were okay.

Police said enquiries were ongoing and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
