J Greenwood Builders has relocated to a new head office in Oldham to accommodate further expansion, following a year of strong demand that produced increased turnover and pre-tax profit.
Founded in 1971, the employee-owned construction contractor moved from its home of eight years in Chadderton to a 4,000 sq ft (372 sq metres) head office at Unit 1, Howarth Court, 2nd Floor, Oldham Broadway Business Park.
Following a period of significant growth and diversification of its specialist services, the relocation of 20 head office staff provides J Greenwood Builders with the space for further expansion and recruitment.
In the 2024 to 2025 financial year, the business achieved a turnover of £27m and pre-tax profit of £1.3m, compared to a turnover of £20m and pre-tax profit of £842,000 in the previous 12 months.
Adrian Rooney, managing director of J Greenwood Builders, said: “Our move provides the space we need for further growth and to deliver higher value projects around the region.
"It allows us to accommodate our growing team, improve collaboration with dedicated meeting and project planning areas, enhance our operational efficiency and provide a modern, high-quality workspace for staff and visitors.”
Reflecting on the past year, Adrian added: “The construction market continues to show signs of demand, particularly in housing and public sector works, which create significant opportunities for well-established contractors like us.
“Challenges remain across the sector, including fluctuating material and labour costs, political uncertainty and increased regulatory requirements.
“But the overall outlook is positive, with our relocation reflecting our confidence and commitment to investing in people. Infrastructure and long-term growth.”
Significant contract wins for J Greenwood Builders in the past year include:
● A £16m contract to design and construct 70 new build houses and apartments for MSV Housing at Alderford Parade, Cheetham Hill, Manchester;
● A £4m contract with Together Trust to provide an extension to Bridge College in Openshaw, Manchester, creating classrooms and teaching space, car parks and wider improvements;
● A £2m contract with Great Places Housing Group to design and refurbish an existing care building at Cornish Close, Manchester to create new self-contained apartments and external works.
