Ladies' cricket is coming to Oldham!

The England Cricket Board, Lancashire Cricket Foundation in association with coach Kay Baig, Activities R Us and Pro Elite Sports are launching the first-ever Ladies' Soft Ball cricket fun day at Werneth Cricket Club. 

Over the past month or so mothers, housewives, students, grandma’s and ladies from various backgrounds who have never played cricket before have registered to participate in a Soft Ball tournament. 

Now, the Women’s Soft Ball cricket festival fun day will be held at Werneth on Sunday, July 29, between 1-5 pm.  

Quick 12-over matches between teams of six ladies will be played, before awards will be presented to the winning team.  

There will be music, stalls and activities on the day for families and friends. 

Soft Ball Cricket is a new, fun, fast, social game for all abilities.

Festivals are set to take over this summer during the ICC Women’s World Cup. 

The Women’s Soft Ball festivals are for everyone, but specifically aimed at women who have not played cricket before.  

At the 'Ladies Cricket comes to Oldham' event there will be a large number of South Asian Women who will participate in the game.

Kay Baig is a community and multi-sports peak performance coach who believes in inspiring, motivating and developing communities health and wellbeing through sports.  

As well as being a qualified football, badminton and cricket coach, she is also a member of the Lancashire Cricket Foundation South Asian Core Cities Advisory Committee.

Kay said: "We are working very closely with the South Asian Communities within Greater Manchester to promote cricket.

"We also want to encouage South Asian males and females of all ages to play cricket and also become cricket coaches.”
