Speedster Beech slowly getting to grips with his Suzuki

Silverstone was the venue for round 10 of the National Superstock 1000 Championship.

However, on this visit Moorside motorcycle racer Ash Beech was competing on the shorter National Circuit, and at just 1.64 miles in length the fast corners and long straights make it one of the most gruelling and technical tracks on the calendar.

Beech recently swapped his BMW race bike for a new Suzuki GSX-R1000, but with a lack of track time on the bike the team are concentrating on set up data.

In the practice sessions, Beech and the team tried a combination of suspension settings and he finished 24th quickest. but light rain in qualifying spoilt his chances of improving his lap times.

On Saturday there was a two-part race consisting of 24 laps each with a 10 minute gap between to allow riders and teams to change tyres and refuel ready for race two.

Beech struggled in the first race and crossed the line in 36th position, but a better start in race two and with improved handling, he crossed the finish line in 26th place.

The 24-lap Sunday race was red flagged after six laps and when the race restarted, Beech settled into his rhythm and held on to finish 22nd.

“Learning the capabilities and how to get the best from the Suzuki is more important than results at this stage, but the bike definitely has potential,” Beech said.

He will be back out on track on September 16 at Oulton Park.
