Determined Oldham triumph at Wigan

Date published: 26 October 2022

Oldham bagged themselves a crucial 20 points to five victory at Wigan in their latest match.

Oldham dominated the early stages with forwards and backs combining to good effect.

However, Wigan were resolute in defence and as Oldham's frustration began to grow, they started to give away silly and petty penalties.

In their first visit to Oldham's 22, Wigan gained themselves a 5-0 lead.

Oldham soon replied, however, with Tom Hannon touching down to level the scores.

Alex Jobson nailed a difficult conversation from out wide to give the visitors a 7-5 lead.

Jobson then kicked a difficult penalty chance to hand Oldham a 10-5 half-time lead.

After the restart, Jobson put in Matty Holland for a converted try to make the score 17-5, and shortly after a Jobson penalty extended the lead to 20-5, effectively closing out the game.

Tempers flared a little in the final 15 minutes or so which led to a series of yellow cards which saw Oldham play almost 10 minutes with only 13 men.

Despite this, the visitors maintained set piece dominance and a good defensive structure to close out an important victory.
