GOLF ROUND-UP: After several weeks of enduring horrible weather which caused cancellation of competitions and difficult conditions over the last two weeks, the sun finally made an appearance for the penultimate competition of the Manchester Alliance’s busy winter season at Crompton and Royton GC.

The home club provided a well conditioned and challenging course with some great views, made even more difficult with some strong cold winds backed by excellent clubhouse hospitality and a warm welcome from staff and members.

Stand professional Mark Hancock, an Alliance regular for many years, showed his class with a great double.

Mark led in the individual pro section with 35, from the consistent Craig Corrigan (34) and Scott Howarth (Davenport, 33).

Mark was given great support by club colleague Paul McMahon as they cruised to victory in the pro am section with 43, five more than Phil Kelly and Martin Dwyer (Stamford), Steve Ingham (Blackley) and Simon Cusick (Ellesmere), Chris Bibby (Bury) and Paul Hinchy and Alliance Captain Scott Jackson and Steve Misell (Disley).

It was tight in the am am section with three pairs locked on 41.

The cpo went in favour of Mottram Hall duo Fraser Scott and Peter Kelly, from Ian Fearns (Stamford) and Paul Ralph (Hazel Grove) and John Kilner (Hart Common) and Terry O’Meara (Ellesmere).

The nearest the pin winner was Paul Traynor (Stamford).

Meanwhile, A singles medal at Crompton and Royton saw the divisions topped by Bernard Brame 67, Michael Tomkinson 65 and Ben Holmes 68.

The Lady Captain’s Easter Stableford at C and R was won by Susan Byrne 35, two more than Linda Haughton, Yvonne Jackson and Brenda Keaney.

There has been plenty of action at Saddleworth, with Yellow Tee medal won by Alan Brogan 67, from David Poole 68 and Will Potts 69.

A ladies Stableford had Jean Dervan showing her class with 38, five more than Fiona Hesten.

The Captain’s Drive-in BB Pairs Stableford was won by Will Potts and Paul Baddeley 49 from Thomas Williams and Adam Slack 46 and Tom Potts and Jonny Givvons 45.

A Pro’s BB Medal at Saddleworth was won by Harry Rushworth and Mark Hamer 59 from Phil Sheerin and Paul Bolger who won a cpo on 63 from James Baron and Ultan McGovern.

Saddleworth ladies have reached the final of the MDLGA Bell Cup in the last two years and they moved a step nearer to the final in this year’s competition with a close 4-3 win at Denton.
