Kaye Orme has been a proud and very successful member of Saddleworth Golf Club for the past 33 years.

In a stellar playing career, current handicap 4.6 and a best of 4.2, Kaye’s golfing highlight is setting the course record for ladies at Saddleworth.

Kaye said: “This year as Lady Captain I am looking to promoting and supporting junior golf along with continuing to support the academy membership we currently have in place.

“My favourite hole at Saddleworth is the eighth because it is the furthest hole from the clubhouse and I have spent many happy times sat on the bench chatting with my mum and dad waiting to play our tee shots.

“My other favourite courses include West Lancs, Formby Ladies, Hunstanton Norfolk and Blackpool North Shore to name a few.

“I normally play once a week from April to September and my other hobbies are baking, crafting and cycling with my daughter and my chosen charity for the year is The Christie.

“If I could play 18 holes in a four-ball with anyone else it would be my family and friends as who better to spend a few hours on the course for laughter and fun.”

Meanwhile, Saddleworth ladies played for Mrs Clegg’s Stableford and in a close finish Denis Brown won a cpo on 36 from Tracey Rowbotham, two more than Jo Jacombs.

A singles medal for Saddleworth’s men was won by Nigel Kippax 62 from Harry Rushworth 65 and Richard Hughes 68 with Paul Brammer celebrating his ace on the 15th hole.

The Captain’s Invitation Pairs at Saddleworth was a big hit, and the winning pair on the day were the early morning pairing of Adam McKenna and Jody Monteith (Ashton-under-Lyne).

The pair combined superbly, with Adam stealing the limelight with his phenomenal long game.

In the runners up spot on 43 points and winning on a card play-off were the pairing of Nick Kerin and Andy Barlow (Werneth GC).

In third spot, also on 43 points, was long hitting Jordan Taylor and Olly Wildmore (Wilmslow GC).

Also making a big hit in their splendid playing gear were the Captain and Lady Captain and their Vice Captain’s (see picture above).

The first round of the ‘major’ Committee Cup at Saddleworth saw the pace set by Terry Walsh, Andy Thornton, MP Norbury and Steve Asquith all 69.

A medal at Crompton and Royton had the divisions led in by Carl Ringland 65, Graham Schofield 69 and Trevor Lockwood after a cpo on 71 with Chris McCarroll, and the 9-hole Stableford winner was Andrew Barnes after a cpo on 19 with Paul Kay.

C and R ladies played for the Lucy Smith Plate and a cpo on 37 went in favour of Yvonne Jackson from Janet Wright, and Noreen Nicholson won the 9-hole Stableford with 14.
