Saddleworth Golf Club’s assistant professional Jason Williams is delighted with the progress being made with junior development at the club which he is spearheading.

Jason said: “I set up the Saddleworth Golf Academy at the start of last season and I have 30 plus juniors 6-11 years and 11-16 years along with a 12-strong ladies academy involved.

“I run group sessions on Saturday from 11.30-3.30 each week and it has a great pick up, so much so I have a waiting list to join each section.

“I have set up the practice area as a six-hole pitch and putt course and we also do long and short game and also course time.

“The emphasis, specifically for the juniors aged 6-11, is on fun which turns into golf through enjoyment.

“It has been a great success and is fantastic to see the journey of the students into golfers reaching handicap status.

“The 11-16 yr olds will hopefully play short competitive matches with local clubs throughout the season to develop their game further."
