Brian completes hat-trick for Oldham GEMS

The winning GEMS trio of Peter, Martin and John
Oldham Golf Club GEMS (Gentlemen Elderly Members) enjoyed playing for the Les Eyre Rose Bowl at Pike Fold Golf Club.
It was a special day for Brian Spary, who won the trophy for the third successive year after a cpo on 36 with Clive Newton, four more than Paul Street.
The winning team of three was Brian, Ian Mackenzie and Phil Best with 95.
Back at Oldham, the GEMS played a Team Texas Scramble and the hot three of Peter Schofield, Martin Stimson and John Smith were first past the post with 44.75, from John Billington, Pat Greene and Keith Jackson 42.70, from Vic Brown, Barry Cotton and Allan Frost, 42.75.
The ever-busy Gems also played the sixth round of the Brian Radcliffe Trophy and Ken Lunn led in with 19 from Mike Smith 18 and John Smith 16.
The top team with 43 were John Smith, Brian and Phil Best.
Crompton and Royton’s men played for the Holden Cup and round one saw Dane Ogden top division one with 66, two less than James Leonard.
In division two Daniel Spencer won a cpo on 66 from Alan Hopkinson junior.
The Subsidiary Stableford was won by Dion Norbury after a cpo on 40 with Jonathan Rigby
In round two Scott Bloor led in division one with 69 from Steve Costigan 70 amd Mark Brannick led in division two with 66.
The Holden Cup winner was Aaron Freeman 137 from Alan Hopkinson junior 138.
A Stableford at C and R was won by Emily Halstead 41, three more than Michael Gazey.
