GOLF: The Saddleworth GC Captain’s Away Day at Marriott Worsley Park GC was a roaring success, with excellent weather and a course which was in fabulous condition.
The 30 members who attended enjoyed the day as they gave superb feedback.
The winners came in with a solid 41 points and they were Mark Heywood and Syd Barton.
The pair combined wonderfully.
Mark was awesome from the tee, his irons were on point and his short game and putting were on fire!
Meanwhile Syd - his jokes stole the show and he kept team morale up by keeping Mark smiling!
The Longest Drive was won by Mark Heywood too and Pee Wee Traynor took the Nearest the Pin on the 18th.
However, the prize for last place was to stand up and tell a joke at the presentation...with 29 points in last place were The Captain and Andy Thornton!
The joke the Captain told in five different accents - it’s still being told now!
The Captain Stuart Hanso gave a big thank you to all the members who supported the event!
Back at Saddleworth, a Pro’s Stableford had division one won by Tom Willams 40, one more than SA Pullen, L Melia and A Dorrington.
In division two, Steven Wild led in with 38 from B Lees and D Lamb, both 37.
The H and H BB Stableford qualifier at Saddleworth needed a cpo on 45 to see W Potts and club legend Tad Knebel lead in from J Ridley and M Dunning, one more than A Gerrard and J Howarth and M Abbott and D Whaley.
A singles Stableford at Saddleworth saw the divisions topped by Stuart Chamberlain 40, David Spurr 37 and A Marland 40.
It was close in a Ladies Team Goulash at Saddleworth with the hot trio of Freya Moores, Jo Jacombs and Anne Head winning a cpo on 77 from F Hesten, A Walsh and H Hopkinson.
A Junior medal at Crompton and Royton saw Jack Heywood in charge with 42 from Jaydn Vickers 37.
The Captain’s Prize to C and R ladies over 36 holes was won by Andrea Lowe 138, well clear of Brenda Keaney 146 and Joyce Adams 147.
