Oldham Council launches tenth year of Bloom and Grow

Date published: 31 May 2019

Oldham Council is once again launching their annual Bloom and Grow campaign in a bid to maintain the gold streak in the Royal Horticultural Society’s North West in Bloom competition.

This year is the 10th anniversary of entering North West in Bloom and as usual their entry into the competition aims to showcase the very best the borough has to offer.

The local authority has also had the privilege of again being asked to participate in Britain in Bloom.

In keeping with tradition, the WOW bed in the town centre will form the centrepiece of this year’s entry – details of which will be unveiled at a later date. Oldham Council say they are incorporating a transport theme into the RHS’s overarching theme of ‘Greening Grey Britain’.

To engage residents and local businesses, they have a number of competitions people can get involved in, with some great prizes on offer.

They’re asking budding photographers to send in their snaps that they feel showcase Oldham at its best.

If your pub, restaurant or business is looking particularly well at this time of year, then why not send in an entry for that category?

The private garden competition gives resident the opportunity to show off their green-fingered skills.

Councillor Ateeque Ur Rehman, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods Services, said: “We are extremely proud to be celebrating 10 years of Bloom and Grow.

“But it’s more than just a case of making the borough beautiful. Bloom and Grow brings together community groups, businesses, schools and residents for a common cause, which is to showcase the pride we have in our town.

“It’s always a team effort and I really hope this is recognised this year more than any other.”
