Have a purr-fect time at the RSPCA Christmas Fair!

Date published: 08 November 2019

With Christmas just around the corner, the RSPCA Bury and Oldham branch are inviting members of the public - and their canine pets - along to their first Christmas Fair on Sunday, November 17.

The festive fundraiser will take place at branch’s headquarters, the Strinesdale Animal Centre in Oldham, from 10am-4pm and will also include a fun dog show.

All the money raised from the event will be used to help care for the animals that visit and reside at the centre.

The day promises a wide variety of craft stalls for visitors to browse for gifts and Christmas decorations, a chance to win prizes in the tombola, fun face painting and seasonal games and lots of refreshments to enjoy.

There is also a chance to enter your dog in a fun dog show, with classes including ‘Most Handsome male’, ‘Waggiest Tail’ and ‘Best OAP’.

Oldham’s Mayor, Ginny Alexander, is set be attending the event and will be judging several of the classes on the day.

Since opening in 2017, The Strinesdale Centre has rehomed over 500 dogs and cats and the centre’s clinic - which offers veterinary care, neutering and microchip services – has treated over 2500 animals.

On average, it costs the centre approximately £850 per day to keep its doors open, treating and caring for its furry residents.

There are currently 18 cats at the centre awaiting on new owners to adopt them, including the beautiful black and white youngsters Goblin, Ghoul and Raven.

Mickey, a three-legged terrier, is also looking for a new home in time for Christmas.

Lindsey Keating, office manager for the branch, said: “We are very excited to be hosting our first ever Christmas Fair.

"We are really looking forward to welcoming lots of visitors - human and canine alike - to help us celebrate the start of the Christmas period and support our fundraising efforts.

“Our new range of Christmas cards will also be on sale, with all proceeds going straight to help the animals at our centre.”
