Date published: 20 September 2023

Can you help improve health and social care services in Oldham?

Do you want to guide the work of Healthwatch?

If so, Healthwatch Oldham wants to hear from you!

Healthwatch Oldham provides an independent consumer focus for local people using NHS and social care services in Oldham.

They gather the views of local patients, service users, and families to review the quality of health and social care services and shape how services are designed and delivered.

Healthwatch Oldham are looking to appoint additional board members, with one or more of the following specific experiences or knowledge:

1. A specific interest in health and social care.

2. Delivering public services, particularly within a health and social care environment.

3. Running an information or advice service for members of the public.

4. Experience in managing domiciliary care or residential/nursing home services.

5. Management or leadership of a voluntary organisation or social enterprise.

6. Experience in working with children and/or young people.

7. Strategic management of a large organisation.

8. Community engagement with local residents to enable their experiences to influence policy and service delivery.

9. Experience of tackling Health Inequalities.

A key aim from the organisation is to ensure the board collectively has all these experiences.

Interim Chair, Jacquie Wood, said: “We have a new Chair, and we are looking to strengthen and develop our Board by introducing new members with fresh ideas and perspectives.

"We are looking for people that have some experience of working in health and social care, or in public services.

"We're also looking for people that have experience of helping to tackle health inequalities, of undertaking community engagement work or of strategically managing a large organisation.

"All our Advisory Board members have different backgrounds and experiences and the more of these experiences we have the stronger we are as a Board.

"Being part of the Healthwatch Oldham Advisory Board is a chance for people to make a positive difference to local services and to gain experience of committee/Board working.

"There is also opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and knowledge and help to change things for the better.”

If you feel that you have something to contribute from at least one of these areas and would like to be considered for an appointment on the board, please complete the Expression of Interest form here, and then email it to Tamoor Tariq, Healthwatch Oldham Manager, at: tamoor.tariq@healthwatcholdham.co.uk

Applications must be submitted before Saturday, September 30.

Healthwatch Oldham value diversity, promote equality, challenge discrimination and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds.

Healthwatch Oldham also welcomes applications from communities experiencing racial inequalities who are currently underrepresented on the Board.
