Letter: The austerity generation

Dear Editor,

The Chancellor's announcements in his budget speech (to reduce the wait for first payment to five weeks and provide more help with advance payments) will help people moving onto Universal Credit.

However, new research by Child Poverty Action Group shows that up to one million more children will be pushed into poverty as a result of cuts to Universal Credit. The budget did not address this.

As Universal Credit is rolled out, all MPs will see constituents experiencing the problems it is causing.

There is now an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) looking at Universal Credit, and it wants to hear from MPs about the kinds of problems they’re seeing among their constituents.

Please could concerned readers encourage their MP to write to the chair of the APPG to share what problems they’re seeing in their constituencies.
