Last Race Home are heading home this weekend

North Manchester and Oldham-based band Last Race Home are gearing up for a gig in the city centre this coming Saturday.

Described by some punters as 'unpredictable, uncontrollable and unpigeonholeable', Last Race Home have managed to keep releasing their own brand of indie records since 2017 despite Covid and members leaving, rejoining and leaving again.

Current members have joked for years that they are a bit like ‘Trigger’s brush’ - 'four new heads and three new handles and we are still the same band'.

A band does have to be resilient in these times.

To that end, the band have just had four new songs filmed by their good friend and artiste Darren Gould-Martin as a bit of pre-production, and to also help them choose which is the next track to be cut in the expensive studio.

Lead singer Den said: "It’s a great way of doing it.

"Once you perform the song on camera and everyone is happy with the take, then there’s a real finality to it and the song is set in stone."

The Last Race Home live recordings being put out on social media are currently serving as a bit of extra promotion for their latest gig, which takes place this Saturday (26th) at Aatma in city centre Manchester.

The gig is being put on by WAM wearemanchester, which is run by Ruth Sophia Murray.

Den added: "It seems like her heart is squarely rooted in the Manchester music scene, and I’ve been to some of WAM’s gigs and festivals and they seem like they are properly promoting.

"They are really making the effort to help artists.“

Last Race Home are buzzing to be playing at Aatma as they haven't played in the city centre since the start of the year.

They have been playing out in the suburbs in places like Holmfirth, Oldham and Stockport.

The city centre is their home, their inspiration and their playground.
