Spirits high in the Athletic camp

Striker Eoin Doyle has offered an encouraging insight into the mood in the Athletic camp ahead of tomorrow's decisive final-day clash at Northampton.

A win at the Sixfields Stadium (5.30pm kick-off) and Athletic will definitely not be relegated.

A draw or a defeat against the already-doomed Cobblers could mean Rochdale survive instead (Keith Hill's side host Charlton).

Former Chesterfield, Presron and Cardiff hit-man Doyle (30) said: “There have been plenty of ups and downs this season I suppose.

“I missed big chunks of it myself through injury, but considering from the time when I came in to where we are now we have a fine chance of staying up and we can’t ask for much more really.

“I have enjoyed the lads and everything about the place so personally it has been a good move, but it would be great if we could get it over the line tomorrow.

“It’s in our hands and if you would have offered us that at the start of the season then we would have snapped it up.

“We are in good spirits and we are looking forward to it.

"It’s a big game and we can’t wait.”

Around 1,500 Athletic supporters will be at Sixfields for the game, and the striker was complimentary of the fans.

“They have been great, especially on the away trips,” added Doyle.

“The trip to Bury stands out because we took up two stands which was weird to play in, and they have been great.

“Hopefully they will come down in their packs again and shout us on.”

All of Athletic's ticket allocation has been sold.
