More than 1,000 were in attendance to witness Athletic record their third pre-season victory out of three as they beat FC United of Manchester 2-0 at Broadhurst Park last night (Tuesday).
Trialist Chris O'Grady put Athletic ahead after 27 minutes.
After Giles Coke’s shot smashed against the post, ex-Athletic hit-man O'Grady netted the rebound.
Athletic could have extended their lead before the break but Dan Gardner’s penalty was excellently saved by the FC United of Manchester goalkeeper.
Athletic did net their second on the hour mark as Johan Branger-Engone latched on to a cross by Cameron Dummigan to round off the scoring and ensure Athletic picked up their third pre-season victory.
Athletic saw out the game comfortably and earned their second clean sheet in as many games following a 2-0 victory at Curzon Ashton at the weekend.
Athletic are back in pre-season friendly action on Saturday when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Boundary Park (3pm kick-off).
