Oldham Athletic go four unbeaten at Morecambe

The victory moved Latics onto the outskirts of the playoff places in the early season table and extended their run of not conceding a goal to two games.

Chris O’Grady and Gevaro Nepomuceno were the goal scorers but in truth it was an all-round team performance which sealed the points for Frankie Bunn’s side who were away and clear by halftime.

It was Nepomuceno who provided the first for O’Grady as his cross avoided everyone in Morecambe’s box before falling perfectly for the former Sheffield Wednesday striker to volley past Mark Halstead from close range.

Just over a minute later it was 2-0 as Nepomuceno turned provider to goal scorer.

Liam Mandeville was robbed of the ball on the halfway line before Dan Gardner’s cross found Nepomuceno who beat Halstead with another neat volley, also from close range.

Morecambe did fight back with chances through Josef Varney denied his first league goal when he saw his header brilliantly saved by Daniel Iversen in the Latics goal.

The Shrimpers did create a whole host of chances in the second half but couldn’t find a way past Iversen as the keeper recorded his second straight clean sheet and kept Latics unbeaten run going in the process.

It’s now 210 minutes since Oldham Athletic last conceded a goal and will put that record on the line against at home to Crawley Town on Saturday (1st September).
