Oldham unbeaten in seven after 2-0 win at Crewe

Oldham Athletic kicked off the festive month of December in fine style with goals from the veteran arm of the squad to see them to a 2-0 win at struggling Crewe Alexandra.

Peter Clarke and Chris O’Grady got their names on the scoresheet for Frankie Bunn’s side, but it could’ve all been different had their goalkeeper, Daniel Iversen not been in fine form himself.

The big Danish under-21 international was forced to save a couple of Crewe’s chances while his opposite number, Ben Garratt had another game he wishes he could forget.

However, Garratt couldn’t do anything about Latics’ opening goal, Peter Clarke picked the ball up in the centre circle, just 17 minutes in, going on a run deep into Crewe territory before unleashing a 30-yard blast into the top corner.

It sent over 1,000 travelling Oldham fans into raptures and set his side on the way to another victory away from home.

At the other end Iversen needed to be smart to deny Shaun Miller before Latics doubled their lead.

With just five minutes to go to halftime, O’Grady turned his marker on the edge of the area before firing low into the corner of the net.

After the break, the weather improved but the game petered out with both sides seemingly settling for their fate, Oldham collecting the points and the Railway men continuing their slide towards the wrong end of the table.

Victory moved Latics into the top half of the table to 12th just five points off a playoff place ahead of their trip to Rochdale on Tuesday night (11 December) in the Checkatrade Trophy.
