Boundary Park
Facing one of their nearest in Grimsby Town in terms of the league table, Latics scored once in both halves and kept a clean sheet for the first time in seven matches.
However, it could’ve been the visitors to Boundary Park who took the lead just 17 minutes into the game, Wes Thomas saw his header superbly saved by Daniel Iversen in Oldham’s goal to keep things even.
It took until three minutes from time before Oldham got their noses in front, Chris O’Grady met Callum Lang’s cross with a full-blooded volley, flying past James McKeown, via a deflection.
Grimsby nearly levelled in the second half but Harry Clifton smashed his shot against the crossbar before Ludvig Ohman was denied by Iversen.
Those misses came back to haunt the visitors with 13 minutes left in the game as Callum Lang turned provider to scorer to rise highest and meet Mohamed Maouche’s corner to power his header home and seal the points for Oldham.
The victory moves Pete Wild’s side up to 15th in the table with a visit from Tranmere Rovers due on Tuesday (2nd April).
