Latics suffer second defeat to non-league opposition in hastily-added pre-season friendly

Oldham fans have been left concerned for the new season after another poor performance and friendly defeat against an opposition from lower down the football pyramid.

Last night's 1-0 home loss to Halifax Town - even while a non-competitive game - was the final straw for some, who booed the team off the Boundary Park pitch.

Latics have faced three teams from outside the football league - only drawing with Ashton United from two divisions below them.

That follows part-timers Stockport winning 2-0 there on Saturday.

Oldham's only pre-season match against a league side came in the Ernie Cooksey Trophy - which finished 3-2 to Rochdale at Boundary Park.

The results have left some fans worrying about the upcoming campaign on Twitter.

Michael Nixon wrote that he thinks the team will be "lucky to stay up".

He said: "So defeats in both home games, only one friendly against a league team, woefully unprepared for the coming season."

Another fan wrote after the friendly: "Gonna check odds on us getting relegated/finishing bottom of League 2. 1st shot on target after 80 minutes? Woeful. Absolutely woeful."

Alan Walker tweeted: "I'm done after 40 years get your house on forest green Saturday."

David Hubbert said: "Horror show of the highest order we are doomed thats for sure."

Another fan, Paul Hulley, wrote: "Friendly or not I expect us to score against opposition like Halifax and Stockport."

Latics begin their League Two campaign at Forest Green on Saturday.
