Latics secure Bolton friendly test

League One side Bolton Wanderers will provide the opposition for the first of Latics' announced pre-season friendly fixtures.

With the players reporting back at the end of June, John Sheridan's Latics squad will have their pre-season fixture schedule across July with a number of games as they gear up for life in the National League.

Bolton will play at Boundary Park on Tuesday, July 12.

With other opponents agreed, these will also be communicated by Latics at a later date.

Details on admission prices and any available live stream will be shared closer to the date(s).

Meanwhile, academy graduate Joe Edwards has signed a professional contract at Latics for the 2022/23 campaign.

Edwards, a talented attacking midfielder, has committed his future to the club as he turns pro after a successful time in the youth team.

Alongside training with the senior players regularly this season, the 18-year-old is from the area after playing for Greater Manchester Schoolboys and studying at Royton & Crompton before his scholarship.

Edwards said: “I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really.

"I’ve always wanted to be a professional footballer and I’ve worked really hard to achieve that."
