Oldham Athletic 3 - 2 Dorking Wanderers

It was always going to be a game for a re-invigorated Latics, and Oldham Athletic recorded their first win in the National League after holding off a Dorking Wanderers fightback in the last ten minutes of the game at Boundary Park.

Latics had opened the new campaign with a goalless draw at Torquay last weekend, but the first home game under the ownership of the Rothwell family saw a more entertaining and driven game in front of over 8000 fans.

Hallam Hope took Oldham into the lead in the 12th minute, with home fans in joyous mood.

Chris Porter doubled Oldham's lead seven minutes into the second half following a flurry activity from John Sheridan's men.

Ben Tollitt's deflected goal slooked to have sealed the deal after 66 minutes.

With only ten minutes left, Dorking staged a late fightback.

Two goals in quick succession worried Latics, but Oldham kept their nerve to ensure their first home win in the National League.

Speaking to Latics Player following the match, boss John Sheridan said it was a 'stressful' watch.

"We didn't control the game in any part.

"I'm just pleased we got the 3 points. I think we get ourselves in a good position of 3-0 and then we need to go on and control the game, and we didn't.

"We made life very difficult and very edgy and we should never be in a position like that.

"But we are a new team, there are still players getting used to me and the shape of the team.  But I'm just really pleased because of the day and how it's gone, and the fans - an unbelieveable turnout and the way they got behind the team."
