Latics pegged back at York

Date published: 30 August 2022

Latics dropped to 15th place in the National League table after a 1-1 draw at York City yesterday (Monday).

Hallam Hope was on target again for John Sheridan's side, only for the Minstermen to even it up with just 17 minutes to go.

Hope, with his third goal of the campaign, gave Latics the lead two minutes after the interval as he completed an impressive team move.

He almost added a second in the 66th minute, but was just unable to provide the finishing touch to Oscar Threlkeld's low cross.

The failure to take that chance proved costly as Olly Dyson drew the Minstermen level seven minutes later, rifling home an angled shot into the top corner.

Maziar Kouhyar missed a chance to win it in stoppage time for York as he sliced wide in a packed penalty area.

Latics are back in action on Saturday when they host Sheridan's former club Chesterfield.
