Spireites to present Latics with another big test

Date published: 02 September 2022

Latics boss John Sheridan is expecting another tough test tomorrow when National League table-toppers Chesterfield roll into town.

Under charismatic boss Paul Cook, the Spireites are flying this term.

They top the standings after winning four and drawing the other two of their opening six matches.

Latics currently sit in 15th place after winning twice, drawing twice and losing twice.

"It's going to be another big test for us, but when we're at home, I expect us to beat anybody," said Sheridan.

"We've got to produce better performances, though.

"In the last game at York we did well for a spell and then took our foot off the pedal.

"We've got to get that consistency for longer periods of the game.

"A good performance against Chesterfield, and a good result, will give a lot of belief to people because Chesterfield are one of the teams who will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season."

Meanwhile, Latics' away fixture against Halifax Town has been selected for a live broadcast by BT Sport.

The game will still take place on Saturday, October 29, but now has a later kick-off time of 5.20pm.

Sheridan’s side will make the trip to The Shay just four days after a visit Moss Rose to play Altrincham.

It is one of four games National League fuxtures chosen for television during October.
