Boreham Wood test next up for Latics

Date published: 07 September 2022

Another tough National League test awaits Latics on Saturday as they make the lengthy trek to take on Boreham Wood for the first-ever time.

While newly-relegated Latics have struggled so far this term with three losses in their last five matches, the Hertfordshire outfit are currently sitting in the play-off places.

Under boss Luke Garrard, they have won three and drawn one of their last four games.

Latics manager John Sheridan has issued a challenge to some of his more senior players as the pressure is cranking up following what has been a largely disappointing start to the 2022/23 campaign.

Sheridan said: "I've got some good experienced players in the squad, and I think they need to step up a bit.

"This is a difficult league for young players, but I've got experienced players who have played hundreds of games who need to do a lot, lot better.

"They need to give more advice when they're out on the pitch, instead of staying quiet.

"That will help make us a better and stronger team.

"We have got a lot of injuries to contend with at the moment, but we've all got to roll our sleeves up and fight now."
