Latics boss David Unsworth saluted youngster Harry Vaughan after he completed a deadline-day transfer to Championship side Hull City.
The 18-year-old product of the Latics academy moved to the Tigers after an agreement was reached between the clubs for a transfer on undisclosed terms.
Vaughan made his first-team debut in February 2021, aged 16, making a total of 40 senior appearances and scoring two goals.
He completed his move following a recent trial period in East Yorkshire.
After the first year of his scholarship at Boundary Park, Vaughan signed a professional contract with Latics in June 2021 and continued to progress in the first-team environment.
He scored a memorable winning goal at Sunderland in the Papa John’s Trophy last year, adding to his first senior strike against Harrogate earlier in the campaign.
He has also received international recognition with Ireland at Under-18 and U-19 level.
Manager David Unsworth said: “It’s a great opportunity for Harry, he really wanted to pursue this chance and everyone at the club wishes him well.
“Harry is one of our own, the deal is a great one for him and the club also benefits from it.
“I’ve got nothing but good words to say about Harry since I've been at the club.
"I really hope he’s successful with this move and everyone here wishes him well.”
