Latics wrapped up their first-ever Vanarama National League season with a 1-1 home draw at home against play-off bound Bromley.

It was a result which saw Latics end the season in 12th position, so seeing them finish in the top half of the table.

Latics took the lead through Joe Nuttall just before the break following an error from the Bromley 'keeper.

They looked to be heading towards ending the season with an impressive record of five straight wins and clean sheets, before James Venning equalised for the visitors after 79 minutes.

Minutes earlier the crowd had given a standing ovation to stalwart Peter Clarke as a send-off on his last game for the club.

Clarke, on loan from Walsall, came on as substitute for Mike Fondop and although a defender, he took his place up front.

With very little to play for in the game the late afternoon had very much a party atmosphere with the players bringing their children on at the start.

More soberly a one-minute applause was dealt with respectively by the supporters with the club announcing the names of fans connected with the club who had sadly passed away during the course of the year.

Manager David Unsworth and his team will now turn their attention to the close season as they work on their plans for the 2023/24 campaign.
