Caprice consolation goal is too little, too late

National League promotion-chasing Latics' wobble continued as they lost 2-1 at Yeovil Town.

Sonny Blu-Lo Everton scored in each half for the hosts as Latics suffered a third straight defeat.

Results elsewhere meant Oldham kept their six-point advantage over eighth place in the race for the top seven, but their hopes of finishing third are all but over.

Everton had already gone close when he gave the Glovers a 10th-minute lead from close range.

He added a second in the 49th minute when he turned in Ciaran McGuckin's cross.

Despite Jake Caprice's consolation in the third minute of stoppage time, the hosts held on for a third win in four games.

Latics boss Micky Mellon acknowledged some of the criticism that came his way once again from the Latics faithful following another disappointing reverse.

Mellon said: "I absolutely take all the flak that will probably come our way, but I am a big boy and I've been in it a long time and I understand that's the way it goes.

"I accept that and I acknowledge that, but I'll be focused fully on trying to get Oldham more consistent and doing things much better because I care very, very much about this football club and this project, so that's what I'll be concentrating on next week.”

Latics are back in action on Good Friday when they host Hartlepool United (3pm).
