Latics stalemate in League Two opener at Milton Keynes

Latics drew 0-0 at Milton Keynes Dons
Latics began the new League Two season with a point as they drew 0-0 at MK Dons.
A match of few chances produced just one shot on target in the whole game, with neither side finding a decisive breakthrough.
Mickey Mellon's men were playing their first English Football League match in three years, with last season's National League play-off winners visiting an MK Dons side tipped by many to challenge for promotion.
A first half of few opportunities saw Latics' Kane Drummond fire wide from the edge of the box, while the Dons saw a penalty appeal for a challenge on Aaron Collins rejected.
Both sides picked up the pace after the break, but still chances would not come.
The Dons saw Jonathan Leko's cross almost ricochet goalwards off Ryan Woods, while Luke Hannant thought he had won a penalty for the visitors – only to be booked for diving.
Latics' Mike Fondop had a strike denied by Craig MacGillivray, in what was the game's first and indeed only shot on target, in the 88th minute.
After the game, Latics gaffer Mellon said: ""We came here to try to win with two strikers and wide men, and we had a right good go at it.
"I can't fault any of the players.
"It was a really good away performance."
