Roughyeds boss Scott Naylor revealed he was satisfied with his side’s performance as Oldham triumphed 28-12 over Newcastle Thunder at the Vestacare Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts secured a comfortable victory as tries from Kieran Gill, Danny Bridge, David Eccleston, man of the match Phil Joy and Craig Briscoe.
“After winning at Workington in the previous game, the right result was the most important thing for us in this one. I was pleased with the result,” said Naylor.
The win means Oldham have now registered three successive league wins, something Naylor will be keen to continue as the Roughyeds lock horns with respective strugglers Hemel Stags and West Wales Raiders before a fixture break at the end of the month.
Despite producing a ruthless attacking display, Oldham boss Naylor revealed he was disappointed to have conceded two tries during the second period.
Naylor continued: “For most of the game we were strong and solid. I was slightly disappointed with the two tries we let in during the second half, but I can’t be too disappointed because one of them was from a dropped ball and the other from a one-on-one.”
The Roughyeds gaffer was pleased in the main though and admitted the result puts his side in a good place heading into next week’s clash with Hemel.
Naylor added: “Overall, we never looked like losing. We were the stronger team. We were solid; we played it the right way; we took our chances; and we put Newcastle under a lot of pressure.
“There was enough evidence today to see that it will be a real tough game at their place later in the season.
“This was a good day all-round for us - no injuries, two more league points, and lots of lads who are desperate to play, but who are waiting for game time.
“For all of us, it’s onwards and upwards to our next few games.”
