Two Danny's are flying high

Back-row strike pair Danny Bridge and Danny Langtree are neck and neck at the top of Oldham's try list as Roughyeds prepare to start the second half of the Betfred League 1 campaign at Hunslet on Sunday (3.30pm kick-off).

Each Danny has scored ten tries in cup and league -- one more than centre Zack McComb and three more than scrum-half Dave Hewitt.

Langtree has scored in each of his side's last three games (1-2-1), while Bridge's hat-trick against London Skolars placed him for the first time in the RFL's list of League 1 try scorers.

With nine of his ten scored in the league, Bridge is ninth-equal in the divisional list of top try-scorers.

Said head coach Scott Naylor: "Both are playing fantastically well. 'Langers' is enjoying his best-ever season with us and Bridge is having a brilliant first year at Oldham.

"We're lucky to have them, but they're not the only ones who are playing well by any means. A lot of the boys are showing up well."

Naylor is chuffed that the squad that will be aiming for its NINTH league win in a row at the South Leeds Stadium on Sunday is a relatively young bunch with an average age of 24 across a 25-strong squad including two loan men in Wakefield's Luke Hooley and Lee Kershaw.

Ten are aged 22 or under - Hooley (19), Kershaw (19), Liam Bent (20), Dave Eccleston (21), Adam Jones (21), Dave Hewitt (22), Matty Wilkinson (22), Danny Rasool (22), Zack McComb (22) and Ben West (22).

For the third game in a row there will be no dual-reg men from Salford.

Naylor still has 23 from whom to choose even allowing for the injury-sidelined Adam Neal and Kenny Hughes.

Young prop Luke Nelmes, who missed his first game of the season against London last week, will be anxious to regain his spot in the 17.

Naylor said of Nelmes: "He's a young lad in terms of front-row forward play, but he's ahead of his years in what we are asking him to do.

"He's playing very well; he just needs to keep listening and learning.

"You know that whenever he's out on the field he'll give you his absolute best."

Looking ahead to Sunday's big game, the Oldham boss said he expected it to be the toughest of the season so far.

He added: "We've all played each other once now, so we all know about each other.

"Every game will be a real tough one -- and it's going to get a lot harder as we play each other second time around.

"I don't know whether Danny Grimshaw (ex-Oldham player) will be in their side or not, but it's very obvious that Nathan Chappell (scored a hat-trick last week) is getting back to his Sheffield Eagles form."
