Winger or full-back Tommy Brierley (23), a Leeds Rhinos product, has signed a one-year deal with Betfred Championship side Oldham after spells with York, Hunslet and home-town Dewsbury Rams.
Coach Matt Diskin, also a proud Yorkshireman and a former Rhinos star, hopes Brierley's career move to the "wrong" side of the Pennines will provide him with a change of luck.
Said Diskin: "He's a promising kid who has had injury problems, but he's over those now. If he can stay injury free, he has the talent to do well for us."
Brierley is the second Rhinos-reared youngster to follow Diskin to Oldham for 2021, behind prop Tyler Dupree (20), who chose the Lancashire club ahead of other Championship sides.
