"Massive raps" to the Roughyeds players ahead of crunch clash

BRENDAN Sheridan, Roughyeds assistant coach, has gone public on social media to offer "massive raps" to the Roughyeds players ahead of Sunday's crunch match with Hunslet at the Vestacare Stadium, kick-off 3pm.

Sunday's game is a straight battle for who takes the fifth and final play-off spot, although a draw would favour Hunslet.

We have to WIN !

After an hour at promotion-seeking Swinton Lions last time out, Oldham trailed 10-6 and were still in the game, despite losing talented on-loan hooker Johnny Openshaw with a knee injury in the first half.

It was only in the last quarter, during which time Emmerson Whittel also went off injured and Roughyeds ran out of subs, that the second-placed Lions took the game away from Oldham.

Roughyeds were seeking their fourth win in a row after slashing Hunslet's points lead from eight points to two in the last few exciting weeks.

Wrote 'Shez' on Twitter after the Swinton game: "Massive raps to the boys. Down to 12 men with no subs left for the last 20 against a quality Swinton Lions.

"Next week (this Sunday's Hunslet game) is the one that counts, so we need all Roughyeds fans to turn up loud and proud.

"No-one gave us a chance this year, and we are one game from the play-offs ! Love these boys ! Up the Yeds !"

Roughyeds have slashed admission prices for adults and concessions who buy their tickets online before midnight on Friday.

The turnstiles will still be open on Sunday, but for adults and concessions who do their business online before midnight Friday, there will be a reduction of £3 with prices set at £12 and £10 respectively.

The new price structure is as follows:

Adults: seats £16; standing (if bought online before midnight Friday) £12; standing (if bought at the turnstiles on Sunday) £15.

Concessions: seats £14; standing (if bought online before  midnight Friday) £10; standing (if bought at the turnstiles on Sunday) £13.

Prices for students and under-16s are as normal.

Students (with ID): seats £5; standing £4.

Under-16s: seats £2; standing FREE;

Club officials, including chairman Chris Hamilton, head coach Stu Littler and his assistant, Brendan Sheridan, have made special requests to fans to attend this final game of the regular season; to wear club shirts and colours where possible; and to be as vocal as possible in their support of the Roughyeds.

Club captain Martyn Ridyard, meanwhile, needs just seven points to reach 2,500 for his career -- a fantastic milestone which few plyers have achieved.

His current total stands at 2,493, made up as follows:

147 for OLDHAM

131 for Swinton

1 for Rochdale Hornets

2008 for Leigh

150 for Featherstone

56 for Huddersfield Giants.

He has kicked 69 goals in league games for Oldham this season and currently lies fifth in the Betfred League One goals charts,

With 18 tries, Owen Restall lies joint fifth in the try list.
