Wigan trio in Roughyeds' 21-man squad

Date published: 24 February 2023

Stuart Littler has named three new faces in his 21-man squad to face Doncaster in the second round of the Challenge Cup this Sunday at the Eco Power Stadium, 3pm kick off.

Head coach Littler has taken full advantage of the club’s dual registration partnership with Wigan Warriors, naming Harvey Makin, Kieran Tyrer and Alex Sutton in the squad with several players out injured.

The latest names added to the injury list are Kian Morgan and Matty Wilkinson.

Morgan has struggled to overcome a shoulder injury sustained in the victory over Wigan Warriors Academy two weeks ago and Wilkinson is ruled out after suffering a concussion and is now following the return to play protocols.

The others ruled out through injury are Dom Newton, Lewis Sheridan and Tommy Brierley.

With that in mind, prop Harvey Makin - son of former Widnes and Salford prop Craig Makin - comes in to add depth.

Also coming in is centre Alex Sutton, who made his Super League debut last year for Wigan in a 38-28 defeat to Hull KR, as well as a spell on loan with Oldham and Championship side Newcastle Thunder.

Half-back Kieran Tyer, who already has League One experience after playing for West Wales Raiders last year, is also included in the squad.

As is the nature of dual-registration, players can come and go each week with no set period they are with the club.

Tickets are available for the Challenge Cup clash, with admission prices £15 for adults, £1 for ages 17 and under, and free for ages five and under.

For adults who choose to purchase tickets in advance, there will be a £2 discount and they can be bought over at Doncaster’s ticketing site.

Oldham squad: Ah Van, Baker, Bardsley, Blagbrough, Carr, Ferry, Hartley, Hirst, Keppel, Makin, McNally, Meadows, Nelmes, Paga, Ridyard, Slater, Sutton, Thornton, Tyrer, Wellington, Yarrow.
