Roughyeds boss Stuart Littler was delighted with the impact made by the interchanges in last Saturday’s 40-20 victory over Hunslet.
It was another impressive second-half performance from Oldham after two Patrick Ah Van tries and one from Zac Baker secured a vital two points against their promotion rivals.
As Hunslet started to tire in the game, Oldham’s intensity levels did not drop with the likes of recent signings Pat Moran and Samy Kibula coming off the bench to inflict more damage.
“I thought the bench was great,” said Littler.
“Moran was outstanding, again, and Samy Kibula had his best game for us and certainly caused them some damage.
“Sean Slater, again, he came on and sped the game up. When people are tiring, the last thing they want is someone buzzing around with a load of energy and that’s what he gave us.
“And Dom Newton has been great, as well, in the last two weeks and he’s now asking questions about his spot in the team.
“We wanted to run petrol out of their tanks and really fatigue them, stay on them and drown them – and that’s what we saw.”
Oldham’s third score, which put them in the lead going into half time and totally swung the momentum, came as Hunslet were looking for back-to-back tries.
On-loan Connor Carr produced a try of the season contender when he came up with a one-on-one ball steal and ran the length of the field – with only one boot on – to score under the posts.
“Connor reminded me of Ellery Hanley for that try when he was bumping people off – it was a massive effort,” said the Roughyeds boss.
“He was back to himself today after being a bit quiet last week on his return to the side.
“He’s a big boy and he causes defences lots of problems, and he has got some wheels as well as he showed with that try.”
