Four-midable Carr shines in Roughyeds romp

Date published: 07 August 2023

On-loan centre Connor Carr (20), who is learning his trade at Oldham while on long-term loan from Huddersfield Giants, scored four tries in the Roughyeds’ 56-4 win at Cornwall.

In Mike Ford’s first game as interim coach, Oldham got back to winning ways in style, scoring 11 tries in total in their first game since July 16.

They certainly made up for lost time down in Penryn, where they led 32-4 at half-time and continued to score freely on the resumption when they ran in another five tries to add to the six they scored before the break.

Eight of the 11 tries were scored by backs - Carr (4), wing Joe Hartley, centre Kian Morgan, wing Nick Rawsthorne and half-back Kieran Tyrer, with the other three going to young forwards Callum Cameron, George Hirst and Sean Slater.

Martyn Ridyard landed six goals.

Thanks to Doncaster’s defeat at North Wales Crusaders and Workington’s loss at Dewsbury, Ford’s men have gone above the Cumbrians into fourth place and are only one point behind the Dons, each with three to play, in the ongoing battle  for play-off spots.
