A DISABILITY group hopes to raise £2,000 to put on the show of a lifetime.

Not-for-profit organisation Oldham Phab Club are self-funding a performance complete with well-known tunes from popular musicals.

Supported by volunteers, members with both learning and physical disabilities have been busy rehearsing every week from their base at the Link Centre.

Dazzling

Classics such as "All That Jazz", "We Will Rock You" as well as songs from "Hairspray" and "Wicked" will feature.

But in order for the special event to go ahead, Oldham Phab urged local people to help them raise the funds to hire the venue and create the dazzling costumes.

One of the organisers Christine Seal said: "We want to make more of life together and this means we all work to achieve the show in different ways but to achieve one goal.

"The show is important to the members as this will build people's self esteem and confidence by providing an opportunity for the group to perform in front of the family members and the general public.

Dedicated

"This is a local group that doesn't receive any government funding and is run by a dedicated team of volunteers. It is very important for local businesses and companies to support groups like ours otherwise we would never survive.

"The volunteers and group members are at present working hard towards the show and need people to help with make-up and hair designs and costume-making to make this a great and wonderful time."

The idea for the show came from members of Oldham Phab Club who have helped plan the event and choose the songs and dance routines.

Previously group members have participated in drama activities with Funk Fitness and All Stars Drama Club which sparked the idea.

Forward

The show is currently scheduled to go ahead at the Grange Arts Centre in October, with tickets going on sale in August.

Christine added: "Rehearsals are going really well and members are really looking forward to doing the show."
