Laser technology proves a hit with tech-teams
Technology students at Oldham schools have tapped into one of the wonders of science for a special competition.

Pupils from eight Oldham and eight Rochdale schools gathered at the City Learning Centre in Hollinwood under the watchful eye of industry professionals to look at cutting-edge computer software, including movie making and web design.

The teams of eight pupils from each school were then given the task of designing, making and promoting a product made either partly or completely using a laser cutter.

The teams then presented their products to a panel of industry experts, with representatives from Unimatic, Techsoft, EDM and Patterson and Rothwell among others judging their efforts.

And Oldham schools cleaned up on the day, with South Chadderton School winning best product in the secondary school category and Lyndhurst primary school winning joint prize for the best primary school entry with St Peter’s primary in Rochdale. the primary school entries.

All three teams took home £300 worth of software for their school and a 3-D printer worth £700.

Awards were also given for the best team work, with Blue Coat School winning in the secondary school category and Whitegate End School winning in the primary category.

The competitors choice award, voted for by pupils on the day, was won by North Chadderton School.
