Jazz and Swing Bands
More than 300 children take part in wind groups at the Music Centre. Members of our traditional wind bands are also given the opportunity to take part in Swing and Jazz.
Groups usually appear in at least three public performances a year. The link below is a video of one such performance given by the Oldham Youth Swing Band conducted by Anthony Sullivan.
Who is it for?
All schoolchildren are welcome to audition (groups are graded according to ability).
Most new members join the Elementary Wind Group and progress to other groups as they develop. Jazz and Swing Bands also require percussion players and many of these come from the “Repercussions” percussion ensemble.
