Red Cross appeal for donations in Oldham this Thursday

Date published: 01 March 2022

Oldhamers will be able to donate clothing to the people of Ukraine on Thursday at Liquid & Envy nightclub in the town centre.

The club, on Retiro Street, will be opening its doors between 2pm and 6pm to take donations of clothing on behalf of the British Red Cross.

A team of volunteers will be on hand to receive any donations, which should be clean, in good condition, and securely packed in bags.

The club will also be donating lost property which has not been claimed by customers.  The lost property contains coats, jackets, and jumpers.

All items that have remained unclaimed for six weeks or longer will be donated, so customers must claim any property before Tuesday 5 March

A spokesperson for REKOM UK, operators of Liquid & Envy, said: "The plight of Ukraine caused by Russia’s attack has touched many people who want to help in some way. We wanted to do something too, so we are supporting the British Red Cross by holding the clothing collection on Thursday.

"If anyone wants to drop off clean clothing that is in good condition and is securely packed in bags we would be very grateful.

"A number of our venues are supporting the initiative."

At this stage the appeal is for clothing only.

The Ukranian Red Cross Society and the International Committee of The Red Cross are responding to the emerging humanitarian needs in Ukraine, following the ongoing offensive by Russian forces.
