A locally-based blues singer described as 'Manchester's answer to Aretha Franklin' is kicking off her band's international tour in Mossley.
The Kyla Brox band plays The Vale on Saturday, January 27, 2024, ahead of a global tour that stops off in locations including Norway, Germany and Switzerland.
Daughter of cult blues figure the late Victor Brox, the multi award-winning vocalist began her career as a 12-year-old in her father’s band, first appearing at Manchester's Band on the Wall.
Fronting her own group for the last 20 years, the Manchester-born singer is now settled in Mossley with musician husband Danny Blomeley.
A completely independent artist, Kyla has self released eight albums and built a name for her band, starting out with local pub gigs and growing to headlining concerts all over the globe, including some of the most prestigious blues festivals in the world.
Kyla was recently named best female vocalist at the European Blues Awards.
Her 2019 album Pain & Glory was nominated for best album in both the European and UK Blues Awards and her new album, Live at Köniz Castle, was released on September 15, 2023.
It features tracks from Kyla's last two albums and is available to buy at The Vale.
The Kyla Brox Band is Kyla Brox (vocals, flute), Paul Farr (guitar), Danny Blomeley (bass) and Mark Warburton (drums).
Support comes from Mike Mellor, playing a mix of Spanish and Latin American classical guitar, with hints of flamenco.
Johnny Clifford, programming manager at The Vale, said: "The Vale is excited to welcome back the Kyla Brox Band to our stage, for a night of soulful blues and R&B sounds.
"Their live performances are truly something special.
"With a mix of both original songs and covers, you can expect to hear a wide range of sounds that will keep you on your feet all night.
"The band is led by the powerful vocals of Kyla Brox, a seasoned performer who has a passion for music that shines through in every note she sings.
"When Tony Wilson called her Manchester's Aretha Franklin, he wasn't wrong."
Kyla Brox Band, supported by Mike Mellor, is at The Vale, Vale Mill, Micklehurst Road, Mossley OL5 9JL on Saturday, January 27, from 7pm.
