Once the money has built up, Tesco select a local cause, group, school, or club to receive the donations
Customers at Tesco in Greenfield are underpinning the supermarkets motto “every little helps” by contributing to the Community Donations Bookshelf.
People visiting the store can donate books which are left on a dedicated shelf.
Then, customers select a book and place a donation in a pot.
Once the money has built up, Tesco select a local cause, group, school, or club to receive the donations.
And three worthy local recipients are the latest to benefit from a payout.
Yorkshire Day received £200 to help towards the proud traditional local event to be staged next month.
Community heroes Oldham Mountain Rescue Team received £200 and the valiant Saddleworth Village Olympics got a welcome £300 donation.
Greg Barratt, Tesco’s lead champion for Greater Manchester, said: "We always endeavour to be a company that shares and gives back to communities.
"Be it as a platform by using our store to raise money, book shelf donations, or our Community Grants scheme - Stonger Starts.
“This is where customers get to vote on who should receive £1,500, £1,000 or £500 by using our Blue Tokens.”
