New, innovative weekly ‘makers and creators’ sessions will soon be starting at Lees Ecohub, offering free community classes for young people in the area.
The sessions are the result of backing which followed a successful Local Improvement Fund bid from local councillors Alicia Marland, Mark Kenyon and Sam Al-Hamdani.
Organiser Karen Flowers said: “There is no current after-school club like this in the area.
"It will be a warm, safe space for young people in the area to feel welcome, while learning about how they can make a difference in their area and be part of the community.
“We’ll provide warm drinks and snacks, and educate young people from all backgrounds in recycling and reusing items in a creative way.
"In addition, they’ll learn about food: how it grows, cooking and nutrition.
“We can’t wait to welcome people on site.”
The classes have been funded through Oldham Council’s Local Improvement Fund, with the three ward councillors successfully bidding to fund a month’s worth of sessions in the spring.
Mr Kenyon, one of the three councillors, said: “Lees ecohub is an incredible place, run by such enthusiastic people.
"We’re delighted that we’ve been able to support them, and the people nearby who volunteer and attend the sessions."
The sessions will be starting from the first week in March.
