On Saturday 28th March, young brass bands from across England travelled to Birmingham to participate in The National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain (Youth Champs), a celebration of youth brass banding across the UK. Organised by Brass Band England (BBE), the national body for brass bands, 42 bands performed at this very prestigious event.
Dobcross Youth Band, a regular at the annual event, travelled with all three bands - beginner, trainer and youth with 78 youngsters aged 7 to 18 in attendance.
“The event was remarkable as ever and the children had a wonderful time. It was great to see many of our youngsters playing for the first time at the event, including a selection of first time soloists” said Jenny Wood, Band Secretary.
“We were delighted with performances from all three bands who played brilliantly. Our training band celebrated with a silver certificate of achievement and the Youth band with a bronze certificate of achievement.”
The adjudicator's comments and the experience gained will be useful for all three bands as they step into a busy season with Whit Friday on the horizon.
