Joyous Latics fans lap up Rothwell family takeover

Date published: 28 July 2022

Latics fans everywhere have understandably been on cloud nine tonight following the news of the club's takeover by the Rothwell family.

With the disastrous, hugely unpopular tenure of previous owner Abdallah Lemsagam now consigned to the history books, it's little wonder the Latics faithful were in bouyant mood tonight.

Social media has been 'blue' hot with delirious supporters roaring their approval.

Jean Kershaw posted on Facebook: "Thanks Frank for rescuing our beloved Latics - here’s to a better future."

Elizabeth Adamson added: "Frank is a legend.... very happy."

Rick posted on Twitter: "Perfect outcome for me today!

"Frank is the right man!

"Would I swap an out of towner with huge money! No chance!

"This will be a fun ride with a true local legend at the helm."

Christine Holland said: "A true Oldhamer looking after his local club, well done Frank."

JackH1501 added: "After all the protests, scrolling of the oafc hashtag, looking back on the glory days, we can finally say we won, so soak it up, enjoy and always remember to keep the faith.

"Love this club to the world and back, up the tics."

Nick said: "I think the match we have is great.

"Frank is absolutely bonkers and has so much passion for the club.

"Whereas Darren and Joe are much more level headed and have a vast amount of football knowledge - I’m buzzing!!"

Sebastian J Whizzer reckons the Latics fans have got what they deserve

He posted: "I haven't seen anyone being sour about Oldham's takeover so far and it's because they deserve it after everything they've been through, particularly in recent years.

"A great club with a great fan-base.

"All the best to Oldham for the future."

"Something special is gonna happen next year," beamed Tom Taylor.

"The feel-good factor will make BP a fortress."

Meanwhile, Oldham Council Leader, Councillor Amanda Chadderton, was in attendance at today's press conference.

She posted her thoughts on the 'I love Oldham' Facebook page, saying: "This is amazing news for Oldham Athletic, the supporters, the borough, and football.

"The new owners have the council's full support and we wish the Latics every success for the coming season."
